Rolling Stones and the Modern Church
Carl Trueman, a.k.a. Mother’s Little Helper, has an interesting post at Ref21 comparing the decline of Rock & Roll from culture-engaging protest, to commercialism, and how American evangelicalism has taken the same path. Excerpt:
I wonder if the same isn’t true of American evangelicalism, in all its forms. A multi-billion dollar industry of books, glossy brochures, swanky conferences, even theme parks. Has a movement of protest against a fallen world simply become one more marketable aspect of that fallen world? Have the sharp tones of our own version of Mother’s Little Helper been dulled by popping the very pills which our song was intended to criticise?
