Sufjan Stevens Holiday Classics

sufjan on iTunesI just can’t believe that everyones favorite Reformed-Christian-neo-folk-banjo-picking songsmith Sufjan Stevens is holding his own with the number 3 holiday album over at the iTunes Music store. Yesterday around noon he was actually the top seller, in front of James Taylor and Sarah McLachlin’s new holiday releases.

Songs for Christmas has some real gems. Non-traditional as Christmas music goes, this collection is Christ-centered and a welcome fresh take on some traditional hymns and carols. The originals shine as well. My kids can’t get enough of C’mon! Lets Boogie to the Elf Dance!

If you’re on the hunt for more great Christmas music, check out Bruce Cockburn’s excellent Christmas as well as The Darkest Night of the Year by Over the Rhine. These are both great musical efforts with sincere focus on the advent of the Savior.

Whew!

After 6+ weeks of a seminary class I took at the excellent MCUTS. This has been taking much of my leisure time, and this blog has been neglected for a bit… now back to the real world.

Old TestamentThe class, Discovering Christ in the Old Testament, was taught by Dr. Miles Van Pelt, Assistant Professor of Old Testament at RTS in Jackson. Probably one of the most “category-shattering” experiences I’ve had in the last few years, I look forward to posting some of the things I’ve learned about Biblical Theology (The unity of the OT/NT canon).

On another note, Last week my Dad had double-bypass surgery. He’s home and doing fine as of a couple of nights ago. I’m in shock over how routine this surgery is… how one can be inches from death, and yet walking around at home within a few days. He’s doing great and should be good as new in a few months. My family appreciates your prayers.
